A little over six years after being dismissed from the position of President of the Polish Tourism Organisation, Rafał Szmytke is to be re-elected to this position. The Chapter of the competition presented him as the most suitable candidate and the PTO Council recommended him to the Minister of Sport and Tourism.
During its meeting on 8 April 2022 PTO Council recommended to the minister Rafał Szmytke, selected in the competition for the PTO president by the chapter. As we have learned, he was considered the most suitable candidate for the contest. The PTO Council debated with 14 members and voted unanimously to recommend. Rafal Szmytke’s appointment to the post is expected to take place on Wednesday.
Rafał Szmytke was the PTO president for 10 years from 2006. On 29 January 2016, the then Minister of Sport and Tourism Witold Bańka dismissed him from the position of President of the PTO. His successor was Wojciech Fedyk. Then the organization, which is responsible for promoting Polish tourism, was headed by: Marek Olszewski, Robert Andrzejczyk and Rafał Szlachta. The average employment on the position of president is therefore 1.5 years (one more person selected in the contest for president resigned a day before the meeting with the PTO Council).
After dismissing (in December 2021) Rafał Szlachta, Minister of Sport and Tourism Kamil Bortniczuk announced on February 18 a contest for the position of PTO president.
Rafal Szmytke is currently a vice-chancellor of the Vistula University of Tourism and Hotel Management.
