Lufthansa is the first of Europe’s major airline groups to announce its route network for the summer of 2022. It looks optimistic, there is a big raid on the USA and a few other new products.
The A350 is the new US destination from Lufthansa and Eurowings Discover
Increased presence in the U.S. is made possible by the delivery of more modern and fuel-efficient aircraft from Airbus, namely the A350-900.
Summer 2022 will mean two more destinations on the list of American destinations. So we will be flying to the exciting city of San Diego in California, the second destination will be Saint Louis in Missouri.
To this should be added the increased activity of the Eurowings subsidiary Discover. She will fly from Munich to Las Vegas.
Discover flies to the most popular holiday long-haul destinations also from Munich
The important information is precisely the one about copying the success of holiday destinations offered from Frankfurt by offering them also from Munich.
Discover will fly to the aforementioned Las Vegas, but also to the best-selling Cancun and Punta Cana. Polish customers of the Lufthansa group can also look forward to Discover’s growing long-haul offer from Munich. In this way we get even more opportunities for holiday exotic getaways and this via a much friendlier airport. We can also count on interesting mileage promotions within the Miles programme&More. Similar to what we can now enjoy in Dubai.
Bangkok returns and Rio appears
This is not the end of the good news on the subject of new long-haul destinations. Bangkok returns to the Lufthansa network and will also be offered from Munich. So we can expect that Lufthansa will join the airlines, which fight for customers to Thailand from Poland. Especially since we start operating in the summer, i.e. outside the traditional season.
Aside from Bangkok, Rio is also worth mentioning, not a top destination for Poles. However, it may be considered by offices organizing incentive trips.
In Europe it is worth paying attention to Norway and Liverpool
European destinations are much less exciting than long-haul ones. However, it is worth observing the development of the European network, also in the context of the plans of our national carrier.
Here new flights to Norway deserve a special mention – Lufthansa will fly to Stavanger and Bergen. Norway, like Iceland, despite being an expensive destination, has its passionate fans, including event agencies. We can also count on considerable traffic related to oil rigs. Lufthansa’s target may also be the fight for a high-paying customer from Norway, for long-haul flights operated from Frankfurt and Munich.
Apart from Norwegian, Liverpool is also worth attention; in the era of low-cost airlines, not many traditional airlines decide to launch direct scheduled flights to Great Britain to airports other than London.
Victoria Falls joins Kilimanjaro as a new discovery in Africa
Finally, a real treat, as a new route to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe has been announced, it will be operated by Eurowings Disvover. Here, the main customer is certainly the group holiday customer/also from Mice and Luxury Travel.
Victoria Falls appears in the network probably as a consequence of the success of another unconventional direction, which was added to the network in 2021. Namely Kilimanjaro. You can see that there is a demand on the market for such original destinations allowing you to be right next to a great tourist attraction after just a few hours flight.
We are waiting for KLM/AF and BA response, it will surely come soon enough. Large airlines traditionally try to come out with product as soon as possible to contract tour operator traffic right away. Smaller players like LOT wait much longer, losing a large part of first-minute sales at the same time.
